Do you have any idea what day it is???
It is the 1st Birthday of Life in Technicolour!!!
Quite frankly, I'm the sort of goose that forgets birthdays, and I'm not above forgetting my own. So, in the interest of NOT forgetting, I planned this about a month ago with some help from Cam and Alex. We got a few special people very close to my heart to do a little something. Think of this as a sort of cyber get-together of close and old Black Milk friends. I call it....
"10 Things I love about the BM Community!"
From the lovelies @ HQ!!!
Cam was away in London at the time attending the meet-up when he took this pic. He apparently got swamped by too many Hawt Little Bosses there, so, he took a meet-up pic not at the meet-up. Lulz! I call Cam my Fake-Older-Brother, because that's who he really is. Forever tagging me out of jest whenever he can, just to annoy the hell out of my Facebook notifications ( long story, that one! I reached an all-time high of 450++ notifications. You know I still love you Big Bro). And yet, always looking out for our best interests!
Everyone has their go-to Mega Hottie (Customer Service gal). Mine's Lana!!! Whenever I'm a major doofus and make the wrong order or get sent the wrong item, she flies to my rescue like a Superhero. I cannot count the number of times she's intercepted my boo boo packages. Also, she happens to be hawt stuff, and keeps making me buy the pieces she models. *Smooches to you Lana Banana!!!
Bonnie's a dangerous chick armed with a lens. She's the photographer by day and ninja by night, keeping the interwebs safe from trolls. She responsible for all the pics we see on the site. Bonnie the sort of Mega Hottie that puts all her pics on Instagram all the time. Nek minnit, I'm checking said piece out of the store. We have a love-hate relationship. I love her, my bank account hates her. That sorta thing.
Bella's one of the SWEETEST girls I know and uber efficient too. The packing extraordinaire always makes me feel so special because she doodles on any order slip belonging to someone she recognises. I got flowers the very first time and I was so shocked and pleasantly surprised. My packages tend to arrive on Mondays, so it's the perfect thing to return home to - a black shiny package with a gorgeous note to boot. In my last one, she drew me Stitch from Lilo & Stitch! So much heart and effort, that girl! *KISS KISS! I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!
Alex IZ a teacup, and she also is the Social Media warrior keeping the raging seas of the internet safe into the wee hours of the morning. I know she likes tea, how else would one be a teacup. She also has this epic cat called Biscuit which I am going to one day catnap, because Makmao needs a friend and I wanna new buddy to snuggle up with. She's a regular participant of community challenges and has even guest blogged here once. Cam hooked me up with Alex for this special post and she got the other girls together for me. Big shoutout to you for being amazeballs!!!
Ashley was the first Sharkie I cyber-stalked (because her photgraphs were so beautiful) and who also happened to be my FIRST Black Milk friend. We bonded over our love for over-the-top fashion, and till today, WIGS. Our dream is to sit on the steps of Times Square in uber high heels and feet-tall headpieces. Let them stare!!! Alternatively, we also have plans to live in a gummy bear house with unicorns as our main mode of transportation. It's all very glamourous in my head, believe me!
Danielle and I have a bit of a Romen & Juliette thing going on. We hail from the same part of the world, a.k.a. Singapore but as these things usually go, the irony of life is that we met over Black Milk while she was living on another continent. She's got very fierce style, and is one of the most beautiful people I know, both inside and out. One of my favourite gals, EVER!
Whoever said that soulmates were restricted to members of the opposite sex, or so I would like to think. Sabby's one of those rare daring Asian Sharkies that wings off-kilter style like McQueen on the runway, and makes me perfectly comfortable sitting next to her in triple BM prints. Impossibly chic and staying eternally true to her own OTT fashion philosophy, the trick is never to bat an eyelid at what anyone says. Guts and gumption this gal's got!
Tim Boss was too shy to show his pretty face. Either that or his comb broke and didn't comb his hair. He's my first male Sharkie friend, which makes him totally special in my book. We've had lengthy arguments over the fact that he is NOT a Nerd but a Geek (I'm confident I am en route to winning that argument). The head honcho of the Gaming Group, Tim works as a game tester, which means that he gets paid to play computer games all day long, so much for every little boy's dream. Be a GEEK ALWAYS Tim!!!
How many have you counted? 9? Well, I did promise you 10!
I guess, the thing that I do love most about the Black Milk community, is organising Style Challenges for the Discussions Page. The challenges started out on a whim when I was struggling with styling my black suspenders. Gradually came more and more requests for style advice and the concept of the Black Milk Style Challenge was born. Fashion and styling are things that are EXTREMELY close to my heart, and it warms me greatly to see Sharkies from all over the world get together and submit style ideas. I've personally borrowed so many styling ideas from these chic ladies (and gentlemen). So to all the Sharkies that have contributed to this blog in one way or other, THANKS A MILLION!!!
It has been one hell of a ride these past 365 days. I never thought things would come so far when I first wrote my inagural post a year ago. In this time, jL, Cam and their team have been so super supportive of this tiny little corner of the internet, and I'm so humbled by it. Most importantly, this blog would literally be nothing without the Sharkies who style their hawt little asses off and participate in challenges, as well as those who leave little comments that really lift my spirits. The community has been a breeze for some, and infuriating at times for others. But it amazes me every time, that over 400,000 girls from all over the world have been connected because we have one thing in common - TIGHT NYLON. For that, hats off to all of you!!!
XOXO,
JL
congrats on the birthday hun :)
